I've been carrying my tripod over rough terrain for hours and barely felt it—the dense foam is thick enough to make a real difference. The closed legs stay put against the pad, so nothing digs into my shoulder even on long hikes.

My shoulder used to ache after carrying my tripod a mile to shoots, but that 1.25" foam pad completely changed it. The shock absorption when the legs bounce against your back is what surprised me most.

The dense foam on this actually does what it claims, no more dull ache in my shoulder after a full day of shooting. The 1.25 inch thickness is just enough cushion without making the tripod feel bulky to carry.
